Welcome! 👋
Welcome to my digital home! I’m Chathura, a senior systems researcher at InterDigital Research and Innovation Labs. I am currently a senior R&I researcher/engineer dedicated to shaping the future of mobile connectivity. Here, you’ll find insights into my work exploring 5G/6G/next-generation wireless systems —alongside my passion for seamlessly integrating emerging technologies like AI, ML, and quantum computing. Whether you’re curious about my latest research, interested in my patent portfolio, or seeking collaboration opportunities, I invite you to explore, connect, and join me on this journey toward the next generation of mobile innovation. I am a senior member of IEEE. Through leadership in research consortia (EU, EPSRC), active contributions to industry standards (3GPP, IETF), and a sustained record of innovation (with over 145+ patents and multiple scholarly publications), I drive cutting-edge solutions that set the stage for tomorrow’s communication landscapes.
My professional journey spans strategic R&D management, grant proposal development, consortium coordination, and end-to-end system prototyping. I am proud to have influenced global wireless ecosystems through demonstrable results showcased at major industry forums, including Mobile World Congress (MWC), and to have been recognized with honors such as “Inventor of the Year” and an Honorary Visiting Fellowship.
I obtained my BSc Computer Science (1st class honours) degree at University of Essex, United Kingdom. Soon after I was awarded a scholarship for the PhD at the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE), University of Essex.
You can use this space to find latest news and activities related to my work (in about page). In my blog I post about various thoughts, topics, side-projects, hobbies, both technical and non-technical.
